SGH and University of Silesia students crowned Vice-Champions of the World Negotiation Challenge (TNC)

The team was composed of: Paweł Urzenitzok, Dominik Zdebik (University of Silesia), and Aleksander Łabuć (SGH) together with coach Bartosz Dominikowski, an SGH graduate. They came in second at the World Negotiation Challenge (TNC) in early April in the Netherlands. The Polish team, with an SGH student on board, reached the TNC podium for the first time in a decade.
We competed among the 16 best negotiation teams in the world in the finals. It should be noted that on the podium we were ahead of Columbia University, one of the best Ivy League universities in the world.
The hard work, many hours of training, and countless books read paid off. We are proud to be silver medallists at the World Negotiation Challenge (TNC), and very happy to further promote SGH abroad.
The Negotiation Challenge (TNC) participants had to demonstrate their negotiation skills. They were judged on the terms of the negotiated contract, the impact of these discussions on the relationship with the negotiating partners, and the experts’ opinions on how the negotiations should be conducted. Among other things, the jury evaluated the negotiation techniques and strategies used, and how effectively the teams implemented them.
The Negotiation Challenge finalists conducted negotiations based on complex business cases concerning, for instance, the export of a Swiss product to new markets together with the optimisation of its production costs or the details of carrying out promotional campaigns to increase the effectiveness of the product sold in a chain of Dutch shops. In the final round they faced the task “The Future of AI,” where they analysed the key stages in the development of AI, discussed the need for specific regulatory measures and discussed international initiatives aimed at the legal standardisation of artificial intelligence. Each of the negotiation rounds was observed by experienced judges who assessed the negotiation style, and shared feedback with the finalists.
The best universities in the world participated in the Challenge, including: Harvard Business School, Georgetown University, Princeton University, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, and HEC Paris.
We hope that our success will inspire others and we assure you that we will be happy to share our knowledge and experience.
We are delighted that it was the Poles who became world vice-champions in negotiation. The Polish team, with an SGH student on board, reached the TNC podium for the first time in a decade.
