Rector's condolences to SGH students from Turkey and Syria

The death toll from Monday's earthquake in Turkey and Syria has already exceeded 17 000 while more than 60 000 people have been injured. This unimaginable tragedy, the magnitude of which we are not yet in a position to fully assess, has affected two countries which are home to 27 students studying at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics. We are publishing a statement from the SGH Rector, Professor Piotr Wachowiak, in which he reiterates his condolences to these 24 students from Turkey and three students from Syria.

Dear Turkish and Syrian students at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics,

On behalf of the entire SGH community and myself, I would like to address our condolences and expressions of deepest solidarity. The SGH community has been shocked by the effects of the natural disaster that hit your countries.

The university authorities and I will be taking action to help Turkish and Syrian students whose families have been affected by this cataclysm. We also welcome grassroots efforts from our community to help Turkey and Syria in the coming months. I will do my best to ensure that these initiatives gain the support they deserve at the university level.
Please accept our condolences for the tragedy that has befallen the peoples of Turkey and Syria.

Prof. Piotr Wachowiak
Rector of the SGH Warsaw School of Economics
