HR Excellence in Research

SGH Warsaw School of Economics has commenced the process of obtaining HR Excellence in Research distinction awarded by the European Commission to institutions that implement the Strategy for increasing attractiveness of the conditions of work and career development of researchers. What are we doing this for?

The implementation of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) and Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R) policy at SGH belong to priority activities of the university in the context of creating a friendly scientific work environment, improving the quality of the indicated work and conducted research, as well as guaranteeing transparent principles for the recruitment of researchers.

What is the HRS4R strategy?

It is a kind of internal self-assessment that allows identifying existing gaps and defines the direction and scope of implementation of the principles contained in the European Charter for Researchers, as well as in the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. By adopting the strategy, scientific units facilitate the increase of the European Research Area competitiveness and the EU science system attractiveness on a global scale. However, what is important for researchers, the units undertake to ensure favourable working conditions, career development, mobility and transparent recruitment processes.

What are SGH benefits from obtaining the logo of HR Excellence in Research?

First of all, the logo of HR Excellence in Research denotes for us rewarding in grant competitions of the National Science Centre, awarding additional points in the parametric assessment, the right to place ads on the European recruitment platform Euraxess. In addition, the beneficiaries of all projects financed under Horizon 2020 are obliged to make every effort to implement the principles contained in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. It is extremely important both to researchers and didactic workers of the university and for the university itself. Moreover, it raises SGH prestige on the national and international arena.

Who is responsible for the implementation of the HRS4R strategy and OTM-R policy at SGH?

At the beginning of 2018 (January 12), we established the following bodies: a steering committee, a coordinator, a chairman, an implementation team and a monitoring group. The HRS4R Implementation Team is headed by dr hab. Jan Pieriegud, prof. SGH, the coordinator for the implementation of the HRS4R strategy and OTM-R policy is prof. dr hab. Piotr Błędowski. The team consists of several dozen collegia and administration representatives. General supervision is exercised by the steering committee, which includes: the rector, the vice-rector for science and management, the vice-rector for foreign cooperation, the chancellor and the bursar. In addition to persons responsible for implementation, it is very important to involve all university employees in the indicated process.

The implementation works were initiated in December 2017. What has already been done?

The most important stages of work planned for 2018 were presented by dr hab. Jan Pieriegud, prof. SGH during the inaugural meeting of the Team for the HRS4R Strategy Implementation (January 17 this year). In March, interview surveys were conducted among academics and participants of doctoral studies. I want to thank all employees and PhD students for completing the survey, which is very important for obtaining the HR logo. We encourage the entire academic community to actively participate in the aforementioned process.
