On 8 June 2024, Project Management students – Julia Tyborczyk, Anna Kucikowicz, Jakub Nowopolski, and Olaf Olszewski – won the finals of the international 2024 IPMA Project Management Championship in Florence, Italy.
The SGH team beat other teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Portugal, Finland, Greece, Italy, and Iran when competing under simulated project management conditions.
“This is a huge success for us. Primarily for all our fantastic students, and also for the SGH academic community, and friends from the Polish branch of IPMA Poland,” dr hab. Paweł Wyrozębski, prof. SGH, the team’s mentor, told the SGH Magazine.
After last year’s second place, this year the SGH team won gold.
“It is the fourth time that this competition was organised in Poland. Each time it was the SGH team who represented Poland, having won the national finals. After last year’s second place, this year the gold medal was ours. I am delighted. Many factors have contributed to this success, which is owed to the SGH, the Institute of Management, and the Department of Project Management. It is also a very fruitful recap of our work, that is, the efforts of the SGH research staff and, of course, the students of our faculty. This year marks the 6th anniversary of the launch of the project management studies. It is a beautiful frame and a huge satisfaction for all those associated with this faculty.
Olaf, Julia, Jakub, and Anna put in a tremendous effort in the competition – long hours of training and presentations.
“We cannot deny that the organisers, IPMA Poland and IPMA Young Crew, represented by dr Joanna Rzempała, Wojciech Jarosz, and Magdalena Zasadni, helped a lot in the preparation. It took hours of simulator training under the guidance of mentors to get the team as prepared as possible. And this intensive work paid off,” noted prof. Wyrozębski.
The IPMA PROJECT MANAGEMENT CHAMPIONSHIP is addressed to full-time students of project management. Its objective is to engage students in this area of business, generate interest in professional project management at national and international level, and foster dialogue as well as knowledge and know-how sharing between science and business.
