On 7 October 2024, Piotr Gątkowski and Aleksander Łabuć, both SGH students, won the 2024 NASA Space Apps Challenge – the largest space hackathon in Europe.

The winning team includes SGH students as well as Bogna Frykowska from King’s College London, and Adam Łabuć from the First Secondary School in Zielona Góra.

The NASA Space Apps Challenge was held in Stalowa Wola. There were more than five hundred participants, mostly from Poland, but also from abroad.

“It is amazing to see an SGH team win in the technology category of the largest space hackathon in Europe. We are proud to have represented the SGH Warsaw School of Economics,” said Piotr Gątkowski.

He further explained that “the result was possible thanks to intensive preparations and 30 hours of work during the hackathon itself, which led to the creation of a prototype solution.” “There was a great deal of excitement, but also support from mentors, including those from the SGH community, who wanted to support the idea of solving one of the tasks prepared by NASA. We hope that our success will also inspire others,” he emphasised.

Piotr Gątkowski is a third-year BA student majoring in Quantitative Methods in Economics and Information Systems.
