On May 7, 2025, Model European Union Warsaw 2025 will take place at SGH Warsaw School of Economics – a unique educational event during which participants will step into the roles of EU member state ministers and engage in a simulation of the legislative process in the Council of the European Union. The initiative is designed for high school and university students interested in European politics.

Model European Union Warsaw 2025 is embedded in the broader context of Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which takes place in the first half of 2025. This is a special moment in which Poland – as the country holding the rotating presidency – plays a key role in coordinating the Council's work. The simulation organized by the SGH European Union Society and Dr Iryna Degtyarova, rector's representative for cooperation with Ukrainian higher education institutions, offers an accessible and engaging way to help young people understand the realities of EU politics and reflect on Europe’s future.

During the event, participants will take on the roles of ministers representing EU member states and engage in negotiations on a legislative proposal. The aim of the simulation is not only to deepen participants’ understanding of EU decision-making, but also to develop soft skills such as public speaking, negotiation, and teamwork. The entire event will be conducted in English.

The programme includes an expert lecture by Dr Iryna Degtyarova, as well as preparation sessions, negotiations in working groups, and a final plenary debate. The event will be immersive and interactive – participants will receive relevant materials and substantive support, enabling them to hold realistic discussions in a spirit of diplomatic dialogue.

A group of students from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) – SGH’s partner university – will also take part in the simulation. Their presence will enrich the intercultural exchange and provide an opportunity for shared reflection on Ukraine’s European future. The joint negotiations and discussions will become a space not only for learning, but also for building solidarity and mutual understanding in the face of today’s challenges in Europe.

The event is held under the honorary patronage of the SGH Rector, the Minister of Science and Higher Education and the European Commission Representation in Poland. The media patron of the initiative is Gazeta SGH.

Registration is open until 25 April 2025. Participation is free of charge, but places are limited. Apply now via the form.
